Teachers want testing stopped...

Ontario’s elementary school teachers are calling for a temporary halt to annual assessment tests for the province’s Grade 3 and 6 students.

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) wants the provincial government to set a two-year moratorium on the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) testing. During this period, the teachers are calling for public consultation on the uses, value and impact of the testing administered annually since 1997.

There is also concern amongst the teaching federation that EQAO test scores are being used by real estate firms and others to rank schools and neighbourhoods.
