As such, when anyone is looking to make changes to their existing home, whether it is a proposed addition or change to the current use, most professionals will advise you to stay within the guidelines of the existing zoning bylaw to avoid having to request any approval from the city to your proposed change. This can even apply to something as simple as changing the deck in your backyard.
