Resale sector defended

Diane Scott has rolled up her sleeves, put her game face on and come out swinging on behalf of Calgary's resale housing industry. Scott, president of the Calgary Real Estate Board, says Canada's competition commissioner Melanie Aitken "doesn't understand our business" and is "confused about how the real estate industry actually works.

Canada's top watchdog is not telling the whole story. What they don't tell the consumer is there is little or no protection if they choose to go it alone and the deal goes sideways. If a buyer ends up purchasing a former grow op or makes a legal misstep, there is little recourse when you do it yourself," says Scott. More than a little upset, Scott says Aitken "doesn't really understand our business."
