Leaside fundraiser helps food bank, Diabetes Association

On Earth Day, April 24, Insideout Studio will host the fifth annual Spring Into Action Day fundraiser for the Canadian Diabetes Association.

"Our Spring Into Action event coincides with Earth Day so we are focusing on green initiatives such as having large scale water tanks as opposed to individual water bottles (less waste etc.) and featuring seeds or small plants to take home to plant in the garden as part of our "goodie" bag," said Kathrin Darling, event co-ordinator, spring into action 2010.

Families are encouraged to pre-register and gather pledges for this community walk, ride or run event which will raise funds for both the diabetes association and the Flemingdon Food Bank

The event's route will wind through Leaside residential side streets and Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Entertainment will include blues artist Son Roberts, singer/songwriter Peter Eastmure and the event will be hosted/MC'd by actor/comedian David Sparrow.

Afterwards, the Park Party and BBQ will take place at Trace Manes Park at the corner of Rumsey and Millwood roads.

"This year we are anticipating our best turn out ever. We expect to be able to outreach within our community and build awareness about overall health, fitness and nutrition as well as educate the public " Darling said.

Interested participants can pick up registration forms at the insideout studio, at 860 Millwood Ave.

The cost for those registrating before April 15 is $25 per person and $40 per family. From April 15 to 23, cost is $30 per person and $45 per family.
