Being on the Yonge subway line, you can go shopping anywhere if you live here. But for those who don't enjoy the downtown shopping experience, why not try some of the small speciality shops along Bayview, along Mount Pleasant and of course along Yonge Street. There are too many for me to mention them all here, but I will try to interview many of these community neighbours and get their stories for you and post them here as we try to grow this community blog.
If you have experience with a smaller retailer, a specialty shop or a service provider along these arteries and you would like to share your experience here, please do so. This way we can all learn about these establishments and try them out for ourselves.
Of course you have the Yonge & Eglinton Centre with its four levels of shopping with 65 stores including a mammoth Indigo, HMV, Metro grocers, the always excellent Pickle Barrel restaurant and a large Silver City cinema. Take a look at the link to see what other stores are easily accessible at the Yonge & Eglinton subway. There are several other retailers and restaurants on Yonge and on Eglinton that are not part of the centre but complement it very well. Take a stroll on a nice sunny day and enjoy the flavours of this buzzing neighbourhood.
The shops on Yonge at Lawrence form the Yonge-Lawrence Village and feature many interesting specialty shops including antiques, crafts, framing/galleries, accessories and decoration shops, bars, pubs and great restaurants.
The Eglinton Way can be summed up in three words: chic, classy, smart. On Eglinton Avenue, from Oriole Parkway to Chaplin Crescent, this strip of stores boasts some of the trendiest stores in Toronto, and is home to over 200 businesses. The Eglinton Way can be easily accessed via arterial Yonge or Bathurst Street.
Last but not least, let's not forget Bayview Village for high-end shopping at Restoration Hardware, Rudsak, Andrews, Guess, Nine West and the many other retailers and services offered at Bayview Village.
And for those who enjoy home renos, we can't ignore the SmartCentre at Laird Dr, South of Eglinton Ave East, where you will find a great big Home Depot, Sobeys, a Sony Style and the LCBO. Here you can also enjoy a coffee at Starbucks or a fantastic burger at South Street Burger. There is also another SmartCentre in the area at 1500 Avenue Rd & Lawrence.
